National Relays 21 August 2010

This is a very popular event for the club and a great weekend away at a great venue in Nottingham.

The club has entered 10 teams (4 Athletes per team). There are currently 22 places still available, so hurry up and sign up. Every year we have a great presence at the event and probably the noisiest club there.

Race on Saturday and BBQ on the Saturday night. Most members camp on the camp site right next to the venue.

This is a very popular event for the club and a great camping weekend away for the whole family (at the campsite next to the course) . Race on Saturday and BBQ on the Saturday night. Details can be found at OneStepBeyond. Since entries are subsidized by the club please ensure that you enter via the link below.

And if you are very keen you can also do the Nottingham Triathlon the next day and see if there are any people without a hangover who are able to support you.

Ferry to Ferry Swim Sunday, 25 July 2010

Our annual Ferry To Ferry swim will take place on the 25 July. All members are welcome although please note it is a 4km swim so you will need to be a competent swimmer.

We will be aiming to leave from Eccleston Ferry at 17:00. Please arrive there in plenty of time.

Please bear in mind that logistically its quite difficult to sort out. Please can I suggest that you arrange car sharing as to limit the amount of cars at both Sandy Lane car park and at Eccleston Ferry. There is actually a sailing race at Sandy Lane that will finish at 16:30, so parking will be limited.

For those of you interested in taking part, can I just point out the following:

This swim is 4k (double the Dee Mile). You need to be a competent swimmer.

Everyone that takes part has to have a wetsuit on (me included) - we will be in the water for over an hour. Everyone that swims will have to wear a brightly coloured hat.

Chris will need some people to volunteer to canoe as this will be an official club event. He will also need someone to walk along the bank and a couple of people at Sandy Lane before the first few people come in. We will aim to swim in ability groups with 3 stops or so on the way down. For those of you who have done it before, it will follow the same format as last year.

If anyone has any questions at all, please feel free to contact Chris Malpass or grab him at the swims. An idea on numbers would also be great, so please could yuo let Chris know if you intend to swim C_malpass2003@yahoo.com.

Deva Diva Triathlon

Thank you everyone who helped out at this years Deva Diva Triathlon. It was a great day of fun even if it was wet fun. I must say that I thought Colin's new Deva Diva song was a great highlight.

Well done to everyone who took part and especailly the lady who came off quite badly on the bike but insisted on completing the course for her sponsorship.

Club Training

Tuesday's Run (Proving more and more popular)

The Tuesday evening run takes place at 18:30 meeting outside Total Fitness. We currently have 3 coaches, Claire, Dave Taylor and Sally Napthen. The sessions cover running technique, hills, fartlek, speed work, pace. Distance covered is between 3-6 miles depending on your group and groups are split according to ability. We are getting around 20 people running each week and everyone is welcome to come along. More coaches especially welcome.

Wednesday Night Track sessions

Everyone is welcome to our fully coached popular track sessions on Wednesday nights. Details on our website all levels welcome.

Wednesday Recovery Runs

Wednesday evening 1 hour recovery runs set off from the City Baths at 19:00. These are informal with routes decided on the night.

Wednesday evening swims at the City Bath

The club has use of the whole pool at the City Baths on Wednesday nights for un-coached sessions. These are great for trying out some new techniques, getting in some additional training or just training in an almost empty pool. So if you are unhappy with how busy some of the other sessions are come along at 20:00 to 21:00.

Thursday Evening Bike Rides

Thursday evening bike rides have started. The general programme will appear on the website. This ride will be led by Alan Cronin. Rides leave from Sandy Lane car park - departure 18:30. We don't wait! Distance 25 - 30 miles and everyone welcome. Just make sure your bike is serviceable and that the tyres are in good condition!!! Helmet is also mandatory.

For wider training information check the website or e-group for more ad-hoc events and partnerships.

19 Things Not To Say To The Officer

1. I can't reach my license unless you hold my beer.

2. Sorry, I didn't realize that my radar detector wasn't on.

3. Aren't you the guy from the village people?

4. Hey you must have been going 125mph just to keep up with me.

5. I thought you had to be in good physical condition to be a cop.

6. Bad cop! No donut!

7. You're gonna check the trunk, aren't you?

8. I was going to be a cop, really, but I decided to finish high school.

9. I pay your salary.

10. That's terrific, the last guy only gave me a warning also.

11. Is that a 9mm? It's nothing compared to this .44 magnum!

12. What do you mean, have I been drinking? You're a trained specialist.

13. Do you know why you pulled me over? Good, at least one of us does.

14. That gut doesn't inspire too much confidence, bet I can outrun you.

15. Didn't I see you get your butt kicked on Cops?

16. Is it true people become cops because they are too dumb to work at McDonalds?

17. I was trying to keep up with traffic.

18. Yes, I know there are no other cars around - that's how far they are ahead of me.

19. Well, when I reached down to pick up my bag of crack, my gun fell off my lap and got lodged between the brake pedal and gas pedal, forcing me to speed out of control.
