The run section not only includes training sessions but it also has a very active participation in some local running series. Two good examples of these are:
- The September evening Multi-Terrain series.
- The Borders League: a series of 10km races which take place from the Autumn through to the Spring.
- Cheshire Cross-Country Championships.
Such events are often governed by the rules of England Athletics (EA) and you must be a holder of an England Athletics Competition Licence (a credit card style proof of identity).
Many Chester Tri members have come to Triathlon from running clubs and retain these as their “first claim” club. They will have a licence which names this club and may not run under the name of Chester Tri – though we may see them among the competition!
To run in these events or to run under the name of Chester Tri, you must have paid the additional “EA affiliation” fee when you paid your club membership. You will then receive (in due course) your EA Competition Licence.
For this type of event you must also wear a (blue) club vest as part of your top layer.
On a more general note, when entering “open” events, you should only enter as an “attached” runner if you are EA affiliated. If not then you should enter as “unattached” and pay the extra money. This is an “insurance” matter. Where the event is in the club’s Winter League (for example), we will endeavour to pick you out from results by using club membership records – a reminder to Becky would be useful too!
Training. Training activities comprise many options:
- Long(er) runs
- Track sessions
- Beginner / novice runs.
Most will have the presence of a coach but there are also many ad-hoc (non-coached) groups which organise themselves via the e-group or other means.

What is expected from you. All you need to do is turn up suitably dressed and shod. For dark evenings a fluorescent bib or jacket is required. You should ensure that you have your own.
Off-road shoes are not essential for cross-country or multi-terrain activities though they may help considerably.
For longer runs, it is good the think about possible food a drink requirements though huge supplies should not be necessary. |
