Bike Lead: Position vacant.
Training will cover the following areas:
· Coached sessions – road & off-road
· Club rides
· Turbo
· Seminars
· Velodrome
· “Challenge” events
· Time Trials, Sportives and other external events
Training.
· Turbos are held during winter evenings every week at the City Baths gym.
o Ability Level: mixed.
· Weekly rides are not “coached” but are an opportunity to improve both skills and endurance. The ride leader will have the route information and guide the group.
o Ability level and distance will be advertised to ensure that you enjoy the ride.
· Mountain Bike sessions will be announced in the club bulletin.
o Ability Level: mixed.
· Velodrome sessions are booked when there is demand, and available track time. These will be posted in the club bulletin.
o Ability Level: Intermediate & Advanced.
· Time Trials and Organised Events: Chester Tri is affiliated to CTT and members are eligible to enter all their time trials. We also support local club organised events. Members take part in local Audax and Sportive rides.
· Trips: the club organises an annual challenge cycling trip over 3 or 4 days, typically covering from 50 to 100 miles per day.
What is expected from you.
All club-cycling requires a bike helmet in good condition (apart from a turbo!) You need to ensure that your bike is also in good condition, and that you are equipped to deal with any punctures. Bring and / or wear clothing suitable for possible weather conditions. Also bring adequate food & drink for the planned ride.
You need to ensure that the ride you chose is suitable for your ability.
Novice:
· Able to cycle for the advertised time / distance (speed and endurance not a requirement).
· Basic skills required: e.g. stopping, steering, knowledge of the Highway Code.
Intermediate:
· Moderate fitness, able to cycle non-stop for 2 ½ to 3 ½ hours at a moderate pace, typically 15 m.p.h. on the flat.
· Basic roadside maintenance, i.e. mend a puncture.
· Some bike handling skills, e.g. cornering and descending.
· Able to ride with a group.
· Have some understanding of hand signals and communication of hazards within a group.
Advanced:
· Good fitness level for both endurance and speed.
· Competent bike handling skills.
· Tight group riding is essential, with good discipline to ensure the group rides as a unit.
